Hello SoCal Hoops Players and Parents!
As we start the new 2019 year, the entire SoCal Hoops coaching staff is super excited about the basketball season. The coaching staff has put all the pieces together to help the boys get better and see significant on-court improvement this year. This includes securing additional gym time, purchasing more training equipment, and tweaking the basketball training curriculum to focus on individual skill development, team play, and basketball IQ. We want to share our basketball plans for the next several months to set expectations and make sure everyone is on the same page.
We ask the parents to cherish these next several months as they will go by fast. We ask the players to commit themselves in order to make significant gains and know there is always room for improvement. We want everyone to treasure the thrill of victory when we win and learn from the agony of defeat when we lose. No loss is ever a loss. We still win if we learn. Whenever we lose in games, we may not be victorious by the final score, but we still win because all of the boys know there is room for improvement and they can get better. Our coaching staff will continue to instill an unwavering confidence and “GROWTH MINDSET” to improve their on-court play as basketball players and off-court growth as young men.
Here are a few items that we plan to implement immediately in our basketball training curriculum:
Thanks,
The SoCal Hoops Coaching Staff

Here are a few items that we plan to implement immediately in our basketball training curriculum:
- Skills Development: We will continue to emphasize skills Development and work on dribbling, shooting, and attack moves with a concentration on footwork and efficient movements.
- Coaching Certifications: Our coaching staff has obtained new coaching certifications for 2019, from various organizations including the Jr. NBA, USA Basketball, PGC Basketball, and Micah Lancaster I'm Possible Training.
- Growth Mindset: In 1988, Dr. Carol Dweck first presented a research-based model to show the impact of mindsets. She showed how a person’s mindset sets the stage for either performance goals or learning goals. In short, a growth mindset views challenges, obstacles, and failures in a different and more productive way to drive motivation and achievement. We will instill the growth mindset in all of our players. Click on the link to learn more about the growth mindset https://www.mindsetworks.com/science/
