SoCal Hoops Basketball Academy (SCHBA) is registered in the state of California as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization (FEIN#46-4914047) with all donations being tax deductible. Our mission is to provide an opportunity for players of all abilities and skill levels in Southern California to develop their basketball skills by properly learning the key basketball fundamentals.
We are committed to developing student athletes’ individual skills, team play, and basketball IQ through our intense and competitive skills training sessions, player development activities and team programs. SCHBA promotes good sportsmanship and positive relationships among all coaches, referees, parents, players and their families. SCHBA is led by a trio of head coaches including Coach Alvin Castro, Coach Randy Narciso, Coach Shawn Hackett, Coach Kye Lee, and assistant coaches including Brian Brandt, Eric Carpenter, and Max Guercy.
Coach Alvin brings valuable basketball experience as a collegiate and professional player and coach at various levels. Alvin first started his basketball career while playing varsity basketball at Grant High School in Van Nuys, CA. After high school, he played a few years at Glendale Community College. Thereafter, Alvin would later obtain a full basketball scholarship at De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines, eventually obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education with a major in sports and recreation management. After college, Alvin starred in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and played professional basketball for over 5 years. Alvin also founded and coached multiple AAU teams (12U-16U) for several years. He served as Athletic Director, Head Basketball Coach, and PE teacher at St. John Eudes Middle School in Chatsworth, CA. Alvin currently serves as the AD/Basketball Program Director/Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach at deToledo HS. Alvin’s deep knowledge of the game and ability to teach, instruct, and demonstrate basketball fundamentals and advanced skills are valuable to all our players at SCHBA.
Coach Randy started his basketball playing experience at Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada playing for the boys Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams. He continued to play intramural basketball while he attended the University of Southern California where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Master’s degree in Business administration. Randy has extensive coaching experience especially at the youth level, having founded a youth basketball organization and coached AAU travel teams (8U-12U) for several years. Randy also coached many youth teams at the YMCA and LA Recreation leagues. His teams always compete at the highest levels and produce great players because of his strong defensive philosophy and of up-tempo play.
