PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DETAILS BELOW FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END.
To All SoCal Hoops Families,
I am very thankful that everyone in the SoCal Hoops family is staying safe and healthy. I have not heard of any reports of anyone contracting the coronavirus. The pandemic has impacted everyone, from friends and family members to small and large businesses. Since the lockdown in March, we lost access to Northridge Futsal, our primary training facility. We immediately implemented an online training program via Zoom, offering skills and performance training Mondays 6-7pm and Fridays 6-7pm. I don't see many of our HS players attending these Zoom sessions but encourage everyone to do so as we use similar drills during the online training. Our coaching staff is committed to making each and every player better both on and off the court.
For the last 2 months, I have been fortunate to secure Northridge Futsal for private use on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:30-10:00a.m. We have been implementing extra precautions such as hand sanitizer, masks, and implementing social distancing as much as possible. We will soon be taking player temperatures to ensure everyone remains safe and healthy. For those players participating in the weekend trainings, I have seen tremendous improvement in skills and athletic performance. For all HS players, the HS basketball season for your school has been postponed until March of 2021. This does not mean players should relax and take time off but it is instead an opportunity to get better and improve skills and athletic performance. If all players take advantage of ALL of the training opportunities, I guarantee that they will be bigger, faster, stronger, and more explosive and more skilled when the HS basketball begins in the spring.
Due to the Coronavirus, I had to restructure the original HS training program and related fees. I still have the player uniforms and hoodies and will distribute them as soon as we start playing games. When we initially started the HS program in Feb., I was planning to complete the program in 2 months and begin a summer program in June. For the last 2 months, I haven't requested any player fees as I wanted to defer training costs as long as possible. With the start of August, I am implementing a new cost structure that should be affordable by all families. Please read the details below of how I will be adding more value to the SoCal Hoops Basketball Academy program.
Please rest assured that the quality of our program has not weakened because we cannot meet in person. This has actually motivated us to continue to find creative ways to train our players. Here are the details of our upcoming plans and objectives:
With all of the training options available, a player can take advantage of over 20 hours of skills and performance training per month. Many coaches and private trainers charge $45/hour or higher for their training services. I am offering a low cost monthly fee of only $225 per month which is all inclusive of online (Zoom) and in-person trainings (Futsal & Park). For access to the online mental training platform, the standard rate is $29.95 per month but I have extended a discounted rate of only $9.95 per month (I will share more info later). Please click on the Paypal SUBSCRIBE button below to pay the monthly fees.
In closing, I ask that all players and parents continue to remain safe and healthy. As always, I welcome all feedback and input to help our program. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support as we battle through this pandemic. I am extremely confident that our players will be stronger both physically and mentally as we have made strategic plans to not only continue training but also improve the overall programs offered.
Thank You,
Coach Randy and the entire SoCal Hoops Coaching Staff

Please rest assured that the quality of our program has not weakened because we cannot meet in person. This has actually motivated us to continue to find creative ways to train our players. Here are the details of our upcoming plans and objectives:
- We will continue to offer skills and performance trainings Mondays and Fridays 6-7pm via Zoom. Parents should encourage their players to participate in the training sessions as I have seen significant improvement from participating players.
- We will continue to offer skills and performance trainings Saturdays and Sundays 8:45-10:00a.m. at Northridge Futsal. This training is only offered for our select group of HS players to minimize exposure to the Coronavirus.
- Once we gain full access to the Northridge Futsal gym (expected in 4-6 weeks), we will offer in-person skills and performance training, initially starting with small groups and then expanding to larger groups. We will also take additional precautions to ensure the safety of our players and parents (i.e. wearing facemasks, using hand sanitizer, and practicing social distancing).
- Starting on Wednesday August 19, we will start offering an evening outdoor training session from 7:00-8:00p.m. at Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park located at 20500 Sesnon Blvd, Northridge, CA 91326. We will be training on the grass field (not on the basketball courts) every Wednesday night as we look for creative ways to train and improve our skills and athletic peformance.
- In parallel, we are trying to find another indoor facility or outdoor location where we can conduct small group and individual team training sessions. Please let me know if you know of any outdoor location or facility. The location doesn’t need to have a basketball court as we have purchased a few new portable courts that we can use during the training sessions. For instance, we could use a park or even a parking lot that will have enough space for social distancing. Click here to check out our new basketball goals, 360Shooter!
- We are planning a Zuma beach training session on Friday August 7 from 8:00-10:00a.m. We will be using the 360 Shooter and running several performance enhancing drills. I encourage all of the boys to attend as it will be a fun event and the boys can swim in the water afterwards. Again, we will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing as much as possible.
- I'm approaching my 1 year anniversary at a small educational startup where I manage a Software as a Service (SaaS) product that helps school administrators and counselors identify students who may be contemplating suicide or self-harm, through the used of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies. In my position, I have worked very closely with social workers, psychologists, nurses, and counselors to better understand the social, emotional mindset of students and have applied many of the lessons learned to SoCal Hoops. I have also recently achieved professional certifications in The Growth Mindset, Grit, Confidence, Neuroplasticity, and Life Coaching. Since the pandemic, I have already used many of the mental training exercises with all of the SoCal Hoops players in teaching them how to be fearless, gain confidence, implement the growth mindset, incorporate habits of success, mentally tough, obsessive, and mindful.
- The Coronavirus has impacted our players not only from a lockdown perspective, but also from a social and emotional perspective. To help with the mental training, we have added several mental strength coaches with advanced certifications as well as bachelor and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology, sport and performance psychology, neuroscience, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), mindfulness, kinesiology, and health science (bios to be shared shortly). Mental strength coaching helps athletes improve their on-court consistency and take their mental game to the next level. Our mental strength coaches will be leading small group training sessions, lectures, and webinars along with 1:1 mental training sessions in the near future. Our first small group mental training session will be held on Saturday August 15, 10:30a.m.-11:00a.m. This is a free event and I recommend everyone attend. Please visit this site and register for the event!!!
