What is the Growth Mindset

It’s important for individuals to have the Growth Mindset.  According to Carol Dweck, in a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point.  In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them.  They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort.”  With the Growth Mindset, it is important to grow and continue to persevere which means to stick with it; to continue working hard even after experiencing difficulty or failure.  Keep going and never stop growing.

I incorporate the Growth Mindset in school, sports, and life

School: I use the growth mindset whenever it comes to studying and learning. In class, if I get a question wrong, I don't beat myself up about it, rather I take inconsideration my effort in trying, and figure out how to get the correct answer.

Sports: You can never have a perfect sports record. Whenever my team loses in a game, I don't go crazy and complain about how bad my teammates are, rather I applaud our efforts and make sure to train harder the next time we step on the court.

Life: Life is hard and anything can be thrown at you. Instead of complaining and asking yourself, "Why does it have to be me," rather say to yourself, "It was me, so I'm going to overcome it."
